In November, Martin Mere is a premier winter wildfowl destination with thousands of Whooper Swans and Pink-footed Geese, and many more, arriving from Iceland. In amongst the geese, waders and other wildfowl abound. But that's not the only wildlife spectacular to be seen in this magnificent reserve with its mix of wetland, farmland and woodland. A stunning cast of raptors - including Marsh Harriers, Peregrine, and Merlin - regularly put in an appearance and other rarely seen birds such as water rails and bitterns can be found in the reedbeds. And Martin Mere is home to an impressive array of other species including the delightful kingfisher. Other small birds regularly seen at this time of year include the elusive Twite, a once-common farmland finch, but now rarely seen.
