Crossbill Safari, Beacon Fell

Event type: Group event
Date: 9th December 2026
Time: 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Group: Birdwatching
Organiser:

There aren't many places to see Crossbills these days but Beacon Fell in the heart of Bowland never lets us down. These distinctive but rarely seen little finches - close relatives of the Greenfinch and the Goldfinch - are specially adapted to feed on fir and pine cones and there are plenty of those in the mixed conifer woodland at Beacon Fell. The country park also boasts moorland, farmland and open water and these habitats support a variety of other bird species including Curlew, Siskin and Redpoll.
