Dacre Banks, set in the scenic Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, provides excellent birding opportunities - in the woodland south of the village, in the adjoining farmland, and along the river. The woodland provides a home for a number of species including Marsh Tit, Pied Flycatcher and Great Spotted Woodpecker while the farmland often features Lapwing and Red-legged Partridge. The riverside path is great for Dipper, Grey Wagtail and Common Sandpiper. Staying in Nidderdale but moving further north we'll check out Gouthwaite Reservoir for wildfowl and waders including Snipe, Dunlin, and Ringed Plover. And there's always a chance of raptors, both the resident Merlin, Buzzard and Red Kite, and passing migrants: Osprey and Golden Eagle have been spotted here at this time of year.
