Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve, Silverdale

Event type: Group event
Date: 1st June 2026
Time: 9:30 am - 1:00 pm
Group: Birdwatching
Organiser:

With its mix of bare rock, damp fen and deep yew forest Gait Barrows is a very special place, not just for its birds - which include Pied Flycatcher and Garden Warbler - but for its wide range of exciting and, in some cases, rare wildlife. This is one of very few places left in Britain, for instance, where you can see the now scarce Duke of Burgundy butterfly. The reserve is also home to a number of rare plants including at least three species of orchid. And even if none of the wildlife shows itself the strange other-worldy nature of Gait's extensive limestone pavements is bound to leave a lasting impression. It's a place you never forget.
