Built in 1673 for the local Metcalfe family this historic old cottage has had a chequered history. It was abandoned in the 18^th century and fell upon hard times, being used as a sheep shelter before finally falling out of use altogether. By the turn of the 21^st century it was derelict but then it was rescued and restored. It now stands as a fine example of the traditional ‘Dales style’ with many of the classic features this form has to offer. Unspoiled vernacular architecture of this type is now vanishingly rare. But thanks to current owner Tim we have an opportunity to experience all that this simple, but beautiful old building has to offer.
